Gordon hessler's cry of the banshee of 1970 is certainly one of the weaker films with the great vincent price, but it is still a pretty good horror flick, and certainly way underrated. The dancing/humilation scene directly references 'cry of the banshee', including the line dance, bitch!. Rue morgue was first paired with cry of the banshee (1970) in 2003, with dunwich and die monster die
The 1970 uk theatrical version featured the edited us print which replaced the opening animated credits with still ones, completely altered the music score, and was cut to remove all footage of topless nudity and to tone down assorted whippings and beatings
This same print was later used for the 15 rated guild video release in 1988 The 2008 optimum dvd features the complete original print. Celebrated as the 100th film of vincent price's career The cast attended a party to celebrate this, according to an interview with sally geeson given on talking pictures tv
No banshee appears in the film The title sequence was designed and animated by monty python member terry gilliam
